Department of Bio-Technology
 

Biotechnology is a multi-disciplinary subject which include the application of biology and technology in a variety of fields such as Plant and Agriculture, Food Processing, Pharmaceutical , Clinical Research, Veterinary Industries, Life Sciences, to name a few.

Development of better variety of plant crops, development of unique vaccines for providing resistance to diseases, stem cell research are all examples of Biotechnology.

At present the department is imparting UG and PG courses in Biotechnology. There are 15 faculty members and most of them have Ph.D degrees. Among them two are trained in Canada, USA and Japan.

There are 10 state of the art modern laboratories:

Department of Computer Science & Engineering
 
Objective
• To establish a centre of excellence in the field of Computer Science and Information     Technology.
•  To get the skills of the students developed in latest software's and programming languages     like .net, Java Based web technology etc.
•  To establish a state of art laboratory with latest computers and peripherals and testing facilities     so as promote the research and development.
•  To integrate the academic programs with practical knowledge and co-curricular activities so as     to promote the intellectual growth of the students.

Department of Information Technology
 

There are six well-equipped computer laboratories for the B.Tech students of our department, and one special computer laboratory for specialized studies, Projects and research purposes.

 

“The Nanotechnology Research Laboratory” where the AICTE research Project work is being carried out, is equipped with Hind High Vacuum Company made “A Vacuum Coating Unit” – a versatile instrument for carrying our material science research. The funding agency AICTE has  granted Rs. 12 Lakhs for this Nanotechnology Project. 

 

In another research laboratory a group of researchers is conducting research work on fabricating certain new types of highly energy-efficient electrical  machines.

Department of ECE
 

Most of the laboratories under ECE Department are well equipped (like Microwave, Antenna and Communication lab) and have two sections with accommodation of thirty students in each section at a time. In these laboratories the following measurements/experimental facilities besides normal syllabus-oriented set ups are available.

1. Electromagnetic field measurement by EMI/MC sensor.
2. Measurement of cross-talk between two adjacent line.
3. Actual power measurement of high frequency transmission by thermistor sensor.


The students of the final and pre-final years have delivered seminar lectures (a sessional paper) on the recent topics like: Global positioning system, Electronic NOSE, 4-G Mobile, LASER in eye-surgery, Organic LED, Cell phone radiation, Maglev train etc.

One journal and four international conference papers have been prepared by different faculty members of this department. One senior faculty member was nominated as the co-chair person in INCEMIC, 2008 held in Bangalore.

The departmental library is equipped with advanced books and National and International Journals.

One ac seminar room and a well equipped Project Laboratory are also running under this department.

The total atmosphere is healthy and homely.

Department of EEE

It contains people from industry and academia young and old all coordinated into vibrant team with a vision to industry-academia interaction.

After NIT-Durgapur, we are the first private engineering College under WBUT to have signed a M.O.U. with Durgapur Steel Plant for its ongoing projects in collaboration with RDCIS-Ranchi.

The department of EEE and all its laboratories are integrated together in a single building occupying four floors. Apart from all experiments as per syllabus, the labs are aesthetically designed to ensure comfortable working environment along with some unique features.

The electrical drives lab contains modules designed by professor of IIT-Kharagpur. 

The power system lab contains computer based transmission line trainer and latest solid state digital relays for bus bar & transformer protection which is capable of handling industrial workshops. It is proposed to upgrade the facility to a switchgear repairing workshop.

The electrical machine lab is to be upgraded for motor winding / assembling unit for commercial disbursement and also training of students.

We have received AICTE funds for entrepreneurship development cell involved in consulting, training, skill development programme, and PCB design in collaboration with personnel from IIT.

Department of AEIE
 
Objective

Department of Business Administration

Objective
• To emerge as a centre of excellence in the field of Management education, Research &     Consultancy.
•  To come up as one of the best B-schools in India.

Department of Computer Applications
 
The department is having a good no. of highly qualified experienced and dedicated faculty members. There are a number of faculty members who have got training from Infosys Technologies Ltd., NITTR, IIT Kharagpur etc. and conducting different programmes for the students to bridge the gap between Industry and Academia.

 

LABORATORIES
We are having three state-of-the-art labs having 32 computers and one server, equipped with latest software and hardware. All the computers are having internet connectivity. Separately dedicated Labs for Database Management System, UNIX, LINUX and Programming, Projects and a separate Internet Lab.


CLASSROOMS
The department is having Spacious Air-Conditioned Classrooms accommodating 60 students for Post Graduate courses. We are having a state of the art Air-Conditioned Conference Hall having a capacity of 150 seats which is being used for conducting Seminar, conference and Guest Lecture.

Department of Civil Engineering
 

The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 2008 with an approved intake of 60. With the development of real estate business and core infrastructure, there has been a demand  for qualified Civil Engineers. It is our endeavour to produce best Civil Engineers in the service of society and the country.

 The department is proud to have Dr Subhankar Dastidar as a member of our faculty who is having four publications (3- Indian and 1- International) and 1 paper published in the proceedings if International Symposium. 

Work for setting up Geology and structural mechanics laboratories is in progress with latest equipments. Both the laboratories can accommodate 30 students at a time.

Department of Electrical Engineering
 
The Electrical Engineering department, starting from session July-August 2009 with intake 60, shall be another feather in the cap for Bengal College of Engineering and Technology. With the vision of Industry-Institute interface, we are already proceeding for live projects for final year students, exclusive departmental library with rare books, reference books and audio-visual materials. We are equipping our power system labs with latest relays & switchgear to equip students for tomorrow’s power sector which is going to be the boom area for next 10 years in India. We wish students, teachers and industry would make best use of the opportunity.

Department of Mechanical Engineering
 
From 2008-09 academic session, the annual intake of the UG course in Mechanical Engineering is 60. One among the first basic Science Departments to be established in 2001 in the institute, the Mechanical Engineering Department of BCET is continuing to provide excellent facilities for education with a dedicated faculty of highly qualified and experience members. Keeping itself upto date with the latest development and trends in the field, the laboratories and workshops are well equipped with modern machines and equipments to provide the best of teaching –learning environment to the students.

Department of Engineering Physics
 
The department of Physics has four highly qualified faculty members from different fields and two laboratory instructors. We have two engineering Physics laboratories and a dark room, which are well designed in strict accordance with the AICTE norms and have all the equipments, which suit the requirement of West Bengal University of Tehnology, Kolkata. Some of the major equipment include

The faculty members help our students in paper presentation contest in current topics in Physics to help them at par with the industry. The faculty members of the department are involved in research activities as external candidates in CMERI (CSIR Lab.) and NIT, Durgapur. They participate as well as present papers in various National and International level conference and Workshops.
Department of Engineering Chemistry
 
The size of the laboratory is quite large. At a time maximum 45 B.Tech students can do their practicals. In our laboratory so many chemicals are available. There is ample opportunities to do any undergraduate level experiments. Once in a year we arrange at least two models when tech fest is conducted in our college. It is the endeavour of the department to initiate research and development activities considering the space of our laboratory and facilities provided by the college .
The department is well equipped with special equipment such as:

Department of Engineering Mathematics
 
Though the Bengal College of Engineering and Technology does not conduct any separate courses in Mathematics, it has a separate department for Maths, in order to cater the needs of the first year students, and in order to promote any kind of development in the subject.
